"I wrote Say It To My Face about a toxic relationship. At the time, it was obvious my ex and I were not in a good place. Whenever I would try and talk to her about our issues, she would say that everything was fine and did not want to discuss it. It came out later that she was afraid she would lose me if she spoke her truth. Meanwhile, I was unable to do anything about our issues without knowing how she really felt. It created this crazy situation where we could never get on the same page and we kept upsetting each other over and over. Say It To My Face came out of the frustration of never knowing what she really wanted."
